UK Statistics Authority says claims in press release promoting benefits cap were ‘unsupported by official statistics’

The work and pensions secretary, Iain Duncan Smith, has been criticised by the UK’s statistics watchdog for misusing figures to promote the effectiveness of the coalition’s benefits cap on getting people into work. In a DWP press release issued last month alongside “ad hoc” statistics, Duncan Smith was quoted saying “already we’ve seen 8,000 people who would have been affected by the cap move into jobs. This clearly demonstrates that the cap is having the desired impact”.

However, in an open letter sent on Thursday, Andrew Dilnot, chair of the UK Statistics Authority, said this claim was “unsupported by the official statistics published by the department”. He added that the statistics used to support the statement had explicitly cautioned that the figures were “not intended to show the additional numbers entering work as a direct result of the contact”.

Dilnot also criticised the two sets of figures released alongside the ministerial statement, saying they did not fully comply with the UK’s codes of practices on statistical releases, with particular concerns around information on methodology and sourcing, and possible sharing of the information in advance with some media outlets. The letter was sent in response to an official complaint sent by the TUC. The gener486186_308791182554824_1561976576_nal secretary, Frances O’Grady, said the criticism showed the government’s, real democracy, and that means not being lied too by officials, public trustees, representatives of our Government.

It appears Iain Duncan Smith used a language of deception when justifying the ‘Bedroom Tax’. This is your standardised concept of propaganda to suit an agenda and back it with statistical data to substantiate claims. Figures can be bent to suit, most know this and now IDS has been discovered actually lying. We as social housing y, real democracy, and that means not being lied too by officials, public trustees, representatives of our Government.

tenants do have a responsibility to challenge his authenticity of his position in power now. Any form of politician who seeks to deceive the people must be challenged. We owe it to protect democrac486186_308791182554824_1561976576_ny, real democracy, and that means not being lied too by officials, public trustees, representatives of our Government.

IDS now has to defend his legitimacy with interfering with our lives so brutally and causing so much upset over forcing people to give up their homes, reducing benefits so drastically that scarcity is more apparent than ever. The economic motive is simple to understand, but we need him to answer to this. Our Tory Government never wish to hear anything negative especially from us the uneducated but when a politician a public trustee lies to us, it is important we are heard.

IDS has used a perversion of language a kind of word magic to trick his followers those who support power structures into believing he is right, we are wrong, and how drastic measures are needed to solve this economic mess the poor have made. How something must be done and how wonderful his work truly is to save the damaged economy (all done by the bankers and unregulated corporate greed). It is this perversion of language that has maintained his credibility that of falsifying figures to suit a corrupt policy of Bedroom Tax and Benefit Caps.

Let us hope that as we politically become more awake that we gain vital insight into each political motive behind legislations that are made behind closed doors. I hope IDS stands down and takes the ‘Bedroom Tax’ with him. We shall see if Government down play this as a mishap that can happen to anyone. We know he has been caught lying, let us hope this is all we need ‘Scrap The Bedroom Tax!’
